Disney Preparing New Haunted Mansion Movie

Disney released a Haunted Mansion movie back in 2004 to … less than favorable reviews.  And it seems that the studio is ready to give it another go.

Based on the popular Disney Haunted Mansion theme park ride, the new film was announced this week at the San Diego Comic Con.  No real details were announced other than the fact that well-know director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade 2, Pan’s Labyrinth) would be co-writing, producing and directing the film.

“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters – think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

We are quite excited around here as we are huge fans of the theme park ride, but were highly disappointed in the 2004 film.  Mr. del Toro is known for his love of the ride, having redone a room in his house to look like the Mansion.  Obviously he will be heaping a lot of love onto the project.
